Testing Your Microphone
Verify your audio quality before judging so your commentary recordings come through clearly.
Before You Begin
- Make sure you're logged in and have selected your event.
- You must have the Judge role for this event. If you don't see judge features, check Understanding Your Role.
Running a Mic Test
- From the judge home screen, tap Mic Test.
- Tap the Record button and speak at the volume you plan to use during judging.
- Tap Stop when you're done.
- Tap Play to listen back to your recording.
If the playback sounds clear and at a good volume, you're all set. If it sounds muffled, quiet, or distorted, try the tips below.
Troubleshooting Audio Quality
- Move closer to the microphone - If you're using a headset or external mic, make sure it's positioned close to your mouth.
- Check your microphone permissions - Go to your device settings and make sure Maestro has permission to access the microphone.
- Reduce background noise - Find a quieter spot if possible, or use a headset with a built-in mic to help isolate your voice.
- Restart the app - Close and reopen Maestro, then try the mic test again.
Tip: Run the mic test before the first performance of the day. It only takes a few seconds and saves you from discovering audio issues mid-competition.
