Testing Your Microphone

Verify your audio quality before judging so your commentary recordings come through clearly.

Before You Begin

Running a Mic Test

  1. From the judge home screen, tap Mic Test.
  2. Tap the Record button and speak at the volume you plan to use during judging.
  3. Tap Stop when you're done.
  4. Tap Play to listen back to your recording.

If the playback sounds clear and at a good volume, you're all set. If it sounds muffled, quiet, or distorted, try the tips below.

Troubleshooting Audio Quality

  • Move closer to the microphone - If you're using a headset or external mic, make sure it's positioned close to your mouth.
  • Check your microphone permissions - Go to your device settings and make sure Maestro has permission to access the microphone.
  • Reduce background noise - Find a quieter spot if possible, or use a headset with a built-in mic to help isolate your voice.
  • Restart the app - Close and reopen Maestro, then try the mic test again.

Tip: Run the mic test before the first performance of the day. It only takes a few seconds and saves you from discovering audio issues mid-competition.
