Camera or Microphone Not Working

Certain features in the Maestro app require access to your device's camera or microphone. If they're not working, it's usually a permissions issue.

Which Features Need Camera or Microphone?

  • Volunteer QR Code scanning - requires camera access to scan QR codes.
  • Ticket scanning - requires camera access to scan tickets at the gate.
  • Judge audio commentary - requires microphone access to record commentary.
  • Live streaming - requires both camera and microphone access to broadcast.

"Camera Access Needed" Prompt

If the app shows a "Camera Access Needed" message, tap Continue to grant permission. If you've already denied the permission, tap Open Settings to go directly to your device settings and enable it.

Enabling Camera or Microphone Permissions

On iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Maestro.
  3. Toggle Camera and/or Microphone on.

On Android:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps (or Apps & Notifications).
  3. Find and tap Maestro.
  4. Tap Permissions.
  5. Tap Camera or Microphone and select Allow.

Microphone Check for Judges

If you're a judge and your audio commentary recordings sound off, you can run a quick microphone test:

  1. Tap your avatar in the top-right corner to open Settings.
  2. Tap Microphone Check.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to test your recording quality.

This helps confirm your microphone is working properly before you start judging.

Live Stream Permissions

If you're a volunteer trying to start a live stream and the app asks for camera and microphone access, you must grant both permissions for streaming to work. If either is denied, the app will take you to a permissions page explaining what's needed.

Still Not Working?

If you've enabled permissions and the camera or microphone still isn't responding:

  1. Force close and reopen the app. This re-establishes the connection to your device's hardware.
  2. Restart your device. A full restart can resolve hardware access issues.
  3. Check if another app is using the camera or microphone. Close any other apps that might be accessing these features.
