Managing Commentary
Judges record audio commentary during performances through the Marching Maestro mobile app. The Commentary page lets you review these recordings, release them to performing groups, and upload files manually when needed.
Commentary Table
The main table displays one row for each unique combination of caption and registrant that has a commentary submission. The columns are:
- Scoring Round - The round the commentary was recorded for.
- Caption - The caption name. If the caption belongs to a caption group, the group name is shown with the caption name below it.
- Judge - The name of the judge who recorded the commentary.
- Registrant - The organization name, with group name below it.
- Files - A link showing the number of files (for example, "3 files"). Click to go to the detailed file view for that specific caption and registrant.
- Active File - A play button to listen to the currently active file.
- Release toggle - A switch to release or un-release the active file. Shows "Released", "Not released", or "No active file" depending on the state.
Filtering Commentary
You can search and filter the table in several ways:
- Search - Type in the search bar to filter by group name or judge name.
- Add Filter - Click to open a popover with additional filter options:
- Scoring Round - Filter by a specific round.
- Group - Filter by a specific performing group.
- Status - Filter by Released or Unreleased.
Active filters appear as removable chips below the search area. Click the X on a chip to remove that filter.
Releasing Commentary
Each row has a release toggle in the last column. Turning it on makes the active commentary file available for that performing group to listen to in the app and on the web.
Auto-Release
The table header includes an Auto-Release toggle. When enabled, the first commentary file uploaded for each group per caption is automatically released. A confirmation modal explains:
"If you enable auto-release commentary, the first commentary file that is uploaded for each group per caption will be released automatically."
Click Enable Auto-Release to confirm.
Uploading Commentary Files
You can manually upload commentary audio files using the Upload File button. This is useful when you have recordings from outside the app.
- Click Upload File.
- In the modal, select:
- Scoring Round - Choose the round.
- Caption - Choose the caption. The assigned judge is shown next to each option.
- Group - Choose the performing group.
- Click Choose file... to select an audio file from your computer.
- Click Upload.
Note: Maximum file size is 30MB. Only audio files are accepted.
Viewing File Details
Click the files link in any row to open the Commentary File Details page for that specific caption and registrant. From there you can set the active file, trim audio, move files between groups, download, and delete recordings. See Commentary File Details for a full walkthrough.
