Commentary File Details
When you click the files link for any row on the Commentary page, you're taken to the file details page for that specific scoring round, caption, and registrant. This page lets you manage all uploaded commentary files - set the active file, trim audio, move files between groups, download, and delete.
Context Information
At the top of the page, four fields display the current context:
- Scoring Round - The round this commentary belongs to.
- Caption Group - The parent caption group.
- Caption - The specific caption.
- Group - The performing group (organization and group name).
Files Table
The table lists every commentary file for this caption and registrant. The columns are:
- Active - Shows which file is currently active. A green filled circle indicates the active file, while an empty circle indicates an inactive file. Click any empty circle to make that file active.
- Created Date - The date and time the file was uploaded, shown with seconds.
- Actions - A dropdown menu with options to download, move, trim, or delete the file.
Important: Only one file can be active at a time. When you click an empty circle to activate a file, any previously active file is automatically deactivated.
Understanding Active Files
The active file is the one that gets released to the performing group when you turn on the release toggle on the main Commentary page. If no file is active, the main Commentary page shows "No active file" and the release toggle is disabled for that row.
When there is no active file selected, a warning appears at the top of this page:
"There is no active file selected for this group!"
This can happen if you delete the active file or move it to a different group. To resolve it, click the empty circle next to any remaining file to set it as the new active file.
Uploading Files
Click the Upload File button to add a new commentary file scoped to the current scoring round, caption, and registrant. Select an audio file from your computer and click Upload.
Note: Maximum file size is 30MB. Only audio files are accepted.
Downloading Files
Open the actions menu for any file and select Download to save the audio file to your computer.
Moving Files
You can move a commentary file to a different performing group within the same scoring round and caption. Open the actions menu and select Move.
In the modal that appears, choose the destination group from the dropdown. The current group is shown but disabled so you can't accidentally move a file to the same group.
Warning: If the file you're moving is the active file and has been released, a warning explains that moving it will prevent the current group from accessing it. If the file is active but unreleased, you'll be reminded that you need to select or upload a new active file for this group after moving it.
Trimming Files
The trim tool lets you edit a commentary file using a visual waveform editor. Open the actions menu and select Trim.
- Click and drag in the waveform to select one or more regions.
- Choose one of two actions:
- Keep selected - Keeps only the selected regions and removes everything else.
- Discard selected - Removes the selected regions and keeps everything else.
The trimmed result is saved as a new .wav file and added to the files list.
Deleting Files
Open the actions menu and select Delete. A confirmation modal shows the file's status (active and released, active, or neither) and the upload timestamp. If the file is active or released, the modal warns about the impact of deleting it.
Caution: Deleting an active file means the performing group will no longer have a released commentary file for this caption. You'll need to activate another file or upload a new one.
