Setting Up Tap to Pay
Get your device ready to accept payments before the event starts.
Before You Begin
- Make sure you're logged in and have selected your event.
- You must have the Volunteer role for this event.
Choosing a Payment Method
The first time you tap any payment feature (like Sell Tickets or Sell Concessions), you'll see the Payment Methods screen with two options:
- Tap to Pay on iPhone - Use your phone's built-in NFC reader to accept mobile payments. No extra hardware needed.
- Bluetooth Reader - Connect to a Stripe Reader M2 to accept mobile payments. Your event host can order these from Marching Maestro.
Tap the one you'd like to use, and the app will walk you through setup.
Setting Up Tap to Pay on iPhone
- Select Tap to Pay on iPhone from the Payment Methods screen.
- You'll be asked to grant location permissions, which are required for Tap to Pay.
- The app will discover and connect to the Tap to Pay reader on your device. This may take a minute or two - keep the app open.
- On your first setup, you'll see a short tutorial explaining how customers should hold their card or phone near the top of your device.
- Once connected, you'll see a "You're all set!" confirmation.
Tap to Pay is now ready to use across all payment features in the app. Customers can pay with contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Setting Up a Bluetooth Card Reader
- Select Bluetooth Reader from the Payment Methods screen.
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device and turn on the Stripe Reader M2.
- The app will scan for available readers and show them in a list. Tap your reader to connect.
- If the reader needs a firmware update, the app will install it automatically - this may take a few minutes.
- Once connected, you'll see a "You're all set!" confirmation.
Switching Payment Methods
If you need to switch between Tap to Pay and a Bluetooth reader (or vice versa), tap your avatar in the top-right corner of the screen to open your profile, then select the payment method you'd like to use.
Note: If the Bluetooth card reader doesn't connect, try turning Bluetooth off and back on, then restart the Maestro app. See Payment Issues for more help.
