Going Live - Streaming an Event
Broadcast a live stream so remote viewers can watch the event in real time.
Before You Begin
- Make sure you're logged in and have selected your event.
- You must be an admin for this event, and the event host must have enabled live streaming.
- Make sure Maestro has camera and microphone permissions in your device settings.
- You'll need a stable internet connection - Wi-Fi is strongly recommended over cellular data.
- Make sure your device has enough battery or is plugged in. Streaming drains battery quickly.
Selecting a Stream
- From the volunteer home screen, tap Live Stream.
- You'll see a list of available streams configured by the event host. Tap the stream you want to broadcast.
Starting the Stream
- The camera preview will open in landscape orientation. Position your device to frame the performance area.
- Use the flip button (bottom-left) to switch between front and back cameras.
- When you're ready, tap Go Live (the red button at the bottom center).
- The button will show "Connecting..." while the stream initializes, then the broadcast begins.
Important: If the stream won't start, make sure the event host has enabled live streaming and that your device has camera and microphone permissions enabled. See Live Stream Won't Start for troubleshooting.
During the Stream
While streaming, you'll see real-time stats at the top of the screen:
- Stream name - The name of the active stream.
- Uptime - How long the stream has been running.
- FPS - Frames per second.
- Bitrate - The current data rate in kbps.
You can use the zoom controls (bottom-right) to switch between 1x and 2x zoom. Adjust the camera angle at any time by repositioning your device.
Ending the Stream
Tap the Stop button at the bottom center. You'll be asked to confirm before the stream ends.
Custom Streaming Setup
In addition to streaming directly from the Maestro app, your event host may choose to use a custom setup with external streaming software like OBS. When a stream is configured for custom use, the host can view connection details including:
- Stream Key - The unique key that authorizes the broadcast.
- RTMP/RTMPS URL - The server address for standard streaming software. RTMPS is the more secure option.
- SRT URL and Passphrase - An alternative protocol for lower-latency streaming.
These credentials are entered into the streaming software on a computer or dedicated device instead of using the Maestro app's built-in camera. If you've been asked to run a custom stream, your event host will provide the connection details. Contact them if you need help getting set up.
